The Healthy Places Index (HPI), developed by the Public Health Alliance of Southern California, is a data and mapping platform that compiles over 20 indicators related to the social determinants of health at the census tract level across California. These indicators are organized into eight policy action areas: education, housing, transportation, neighborhood conditions, clean environment, healthcare access, economic resources, and social resources. The platform generates a composite HPI score that ranks communities based on conditions linked to health outcomes and life expectancy. Users can interact with maps and filter data by census tracts, school districts, congressional districts, and other geographic boundaries. The data are also download via an API (require registration).
